Benefits of using suction excavation to remove rail ballast

07-01-2016

500 tonnes of rail ballast to be removed from rail wagons

From sunrise to sunset, two suction excavators have been working on a UK rail site removing in excess of 500 tonnes of rail ballast from wagons.

Suction excavation technology has again proven to be the best option to remove this large amount of material across only three shifts, whilst utilising two of our 32t suction excavators to complete the task.

The benefits of using this method is the competence of the machinery, the huge amount of ballast that is able to be extracted in one single load. It can then be safely stored within the container and moved on site to the designated tipping area, then back to the wagon to commence the next load.

Suction extraction, excavation and removal is proven to be a time saving, fast, effective and reliable method to extract a bulk and heavy load of material - all stored in one container with minimal disruption to the environment, site area and the surroundings.

These images were taken on site and show our operatives removing the ballast from the wagons, using remote controlled functions, extension hoses and the highest powered 32t suction excavators we have available for various rail site projects.
